Australia Fires: How You Can Help
Like you, we are deeply concerned about the alarming reports related to the Australian bushfires. The fires have been blazing since September and are expected to worsen. There are still months left to go in their fire season, a season that seems to get longer every year.
And, although Celeste Barber has raised a record $40 million through Facebook fundraisers and several celebrities mentioned the fires during the Golden Globes, it’s still NOT one of the top 10 trending topics on Google. Are people just so overwhelmed with the news that they don’t know how to respond?
As fundraisers, we’re surprised that googling “donate to Australia bushfires” is not bringing up any paid ads from organizations. Since even we’re finding it difficult to find a place to give, we wanted to provide a couple of options in case you are also searching for ways to help.
United States-Based Organizations
Charity Navigator has started a list of organizations headquartered in the United States that are working closely with partners in Australia to deliver aid and support.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare has deployed its Global Disaster Response team to Australia as of January 10, 2020 to help the vast and growing number of animals in need.
Australian Wildlife Rescue
Our client, Animal Justice Party New South Wales, has put together lists of wildlife rescue and relief organizations in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, and New South Wales. Follow their Instagram feed to find organizations dedicated to helping wildlife now.
One Animal Justice Party Member of Parliament, Emma Hurst, has started the fund AJP Sanctuary Saviour’s. The funds raised will support a collection of Australian-based animal sanctuaries and wildlife rescue groups that need help covering the rising cost of food for the animals and to help with vet costs for injured animals and wildlife.
In addition, there’s a fast-growing Facebook Fundraiser underway for Wildlife and Information Rescue Emergency Services (WIRES), the largest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation charity in Australia. They are a certified non-profit organization providing crucial on-the-ground rescue and rehabilitation support for those precious wild animals that have been spared. Their animal rescuers and carers are all volunteers and need every dollar possible to keep up with the demand.
Australian Political Organizations
Donations to the Animal Justice Party allow them to be competitive in political campaigns so they can give animals a voice in Parliament. Up to 80% of national, state and local legislation affects animals and they clearly need representation now more than ever.
The Celeste Barber Facebook fundraiser is dedicated to supporting the heroic firefighters. She is raising money for The Trustee for NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund.
We’ll continue to add to this list as it’s clear the crisis won’t be ending anytime soon. We’re all in this together, so if you find a way to help, please drop us a line so we can include it.
